The most Catholic dessert yet!

A group of us had dinner together tonight, and as today was a beautiful feast day, the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary, we naturally needed a cake. Diep ordered it from a Filipino bakery and had them write "Happy Birthday Mary!" in blue.

The bowl of figs on the table was going to be the feature of this post at first. After all, the fig is highly Biblical (see for example here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here) and fruit is about all they had for dessert then, so I figured that's plenty good enough for my little Catholic dessert category. But that was before Diep produced the cake that blew the competition away. :)

Awww...what a pretty cake! I love the fruit on top!

I've not eaten a fig except in a "Fig Newton." Ha! But I'm with you. I think I'd lean toward the cake any day over figs. :-)

I guess the next Catholic dessert post will be on Friday. Right Red?

I came across your blog. I am a long time Catholic. Big "C". And well your cake looks delicious. I am sure it tastes as good as it looks. Keep up the good work and always be strong in your faith. larry--

A few years back our priests from SPC had a cartoon in the bulletin. It was something along the lines of some zoo animals and the phrase "please don't feed the priests!" Apparently they kept getting cakes as gifts --and so at the end of the day they would have a fridge full of sweet treats...too bad they never invited me to the rectory...I would have been glad to help them solve that problem.

Mary Rose, I never ate figs till recently, and I've discovered I was missing out. They're really yummy even without the Newton. Not that the cake wasn't even better. :)

Farfarolla, every day is Catholic dessert day! (On days of fasting an empty plate will be our Catholic dessert.)

Thanks, larry'n'merced, and I intend to. :)

If you google the term "Catholic desserts", the number 3 item on their list is you. Impressive.

Oh, awesome! That's the key to blogging success: find a niche so obscure it's not filled yet.
