Saturday's ironic activities

Last night I ate my mom's delicious oxtail stew. Oxtail is really rich and flavorful. The stew was accompanied by a tangy Asian cole slaw, crusty buttery croissants, and fresh fruit salad. For dessert there were chocolate cookies and chocolate-covered pretzels and a Tres Leches Cake I'd made. Pioneer Woman gives such detailed photos of the recipe that I won't bother; just imagine that my cake looked as pretty as hers. :) I liked the cake and it was a lot of fun to make-- pouring that rich milk mixture all over it... mmmm..... I chose to add half a teaspoon each of nutmeg and cinnamon because I was afraid the cake would be bland, and I'm glad I did. It was still a little on the bland side, but with such sweet light moist goodness that I'm certainly not complaining.

So anyway, I ate really well yesterday. And what do you suppose I did after dessert? Read Pope Paul VI's apostolic constituition on penance and fasting and abstinence.

Just spent my confession (face-to-face because I'm hearing impaired) in an odd maintenance/broom closet type room with just the tiniest narrow passageway (for walking through & confessions apparently!). Anyway, my #1 sin is usually gluttony, so I put the blame right square where it belongs, on "Infused Knowledge." The priest seemed to know exactly what I was talking about. Hhhhmmmmmm.

Hahahaa! So glad to see the blog's influence is spreading. :)

Did the oxtail recipe come from the old version of Joy of Cooking, by chance? They have a good-'un; the beef heart recipe in that book is one of my all-time favorite comfort foods, served over rice. I want triples! (gluttony??)

It does seem that gluttony is the deadly sin most promoted on this blog. Let me think... envy, avarice, wrath, pride, lust, sloth... yeah, it's probably gluttony.

Mom says she just grabbed a recipe from the internet after unexpectedly finding some oxtail at the grocery store. The Joy of Cooking one sounds good...

You're very funny (and smarter than the average bear) Rachel. I can see why Mr. Jim Aroo promotes your blog. He also has comedic tendencies :), of course, along with his sharp wit.

He said he moved (steps away from the first pew); do you still live in his parish?

Aw, thanks! :) I don't live in JimAroo's parish now, but I still consider it my home parish and go whenever I have time for the long-ish drive. It's always nice to see Mr. and Mrs. Aroo there... and I nearly always do. :)

Quick! On your knees, BEG God for a good husband, get married and have lots of children. Meals as yummy as this one described and all your Catholic desserts are meant to be shared with a big family and passed on for generations! Thanks for so much yumminess--can't wait for Lent to be over. : )

Thanks Marie! Since it was mostly my mom's cooking, I think I'll get on my knees to thank God for such a mother. :)
