Just got back from Kohl's

I was acting on a tip that there are long black skirts there; I need one for the convent.   In the meantime it was great to look around the store at all the many, many clothes, and think, "This is all completely irrelevant to me."  I didn't have to care about finding something decent, not pricey and not ugly-- I could just pass it all by.  I know there are people reading this who'll envy that. :)

The other day I told some friends, "I've never achieved my dream of a wardrobe in which everything is so comfortable and flattering that I can just reach in blindfolded and pull out something to wear in seconds."  One of the friends pointed out that becoming a nun pretty much achieves the dream perfectly.  :) :)

In other news, I've always laughed at the stories about the Académie française enforcing French culture and fighting the Anglicization of the language by opposing English loanwords-- but it's not as funny when I have to learn to pronounce "voiture" instead of "car".  The French string together their vowel sounds in a most astounding way.

Also, I'm back from a great trip to Northern California and I'll blog it when I can, but right now I have to finish a French language tape.  No, I'm not blogging right now.  It's your imagination.

Do you sew? Skirts are remarkably easy to make. It wouldn't necessarily be cheaper than buying one, but you could then make it as long as you need it.

That's a good idea, but I don't sew at all. However, I think I'll have to learn, because a sewing kit is on the list of things to bring that the sisters sent me. :)

Oooooo...the Erin who commented is my friend from college! Yay! Anyway, about the acadamie francaise, the silly billy thing about it is that they forced their language on us beginning in 1066 so that now 1/3 of our vcabulaire est francaise. Can they really argue that we're anglicizing it when we've been francaied?

Those darn imperialist French! But I admit it does make learning their language easier for me. :)

IIRC, English's other main influences were Anglo-Saxon and Norse, and for some concepts we've preserved words from all three sources, e.g. "anger", "wrath", and "ire". Thus we have a large vocabulary; I'm glad I'm not learning *English* as a second language!

Recommend you find the fabric you like- something for summer, winter, and have someone sew a few skirts for you. If you are going to wear them al day-might as well have something that not only fits, is comfortable, and fits the season.

Thanks Anon! Actually I only need one skirt and the sisters are supposed to make others for me when I get there-- much easier. :)

Did you try any Goodwill stores or anything like that? Good stuff at good prices.

Yeah, that's an idea... I have a lot of stuff to buy.

I don't know your size range, BUT if you can wear clothes from Roamans, I just ordered two black postulant skirts from there and would highly recommend them. Woohooo!

I might fit in that range-- thanks! :)
